Working with Your Values at Downtown Brooklyn Arts Management Fellowship

  • Mark Morris Dance Group 3 Lafayette Avenue Brooklyn, NY, 11217 United States (map)

From Alison McNeil, Founder and CCO of MCEArts

Courtney Harge spoke with the Downtown Brooklyn Arts Management Fellows today. She blessed these Fellows with the wisdom she’s gained as an arts administrator of color in this field. We talked transparently about the importance of self-awareness and value alignment in life and in the workplace. We unpacked how your boundaries might make other people uncomfortable and that that has nothing to do with you. We were reminded that we don’t have to stay in toxic environments and how to navigate those environments until we get out. We named the characteristics of white supremacy that show up in the workplace and ourselves at times. We discussed those WOW moments when we see how those situations are rooted in white supremacy. We discussed that it’s a journey to fine tune your self awareness muscle but as it strengthens you become clearer about who you are and who you aren’t.
